10 farms to buy corn when it's in season in Ontario

July and August is corn season in Ontario so now's the time to stop by a local farm to pick up some 'Peaches and Cream' and other sweet corn that's as tasty as you'll find anywhere in the world.

Here are some farms in Ontario when you buy sweet local corn when it's in season.

Barrie Hill Farms

At this second-generation family farm near Barrie, you can pick your own sweet corn or buy a pre-picked harvest. The sweet corn is priced at $10 per dozen, $5.50 for six cobs or $1 each. The farm also offers wagon rides to the picking fields for $8.

Do bring your own basket, but in case you forget, you can purchase one for under a buck. The farm is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during the week and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekend.

Allison’s Farm Market

You can buy corn by the cob or by the dozen from this family-owned farm market in Georgetown. Single cobs of corn are priced at $1.20 a piece and if you buy a dozen, it will cost you $12.

You can bring your own bags or get a plastic bag from them for 5 cents. They're open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Snyder’s Sweet Corn

This multi-generational family farm in Caledonia sells their sweet corn produce from a stand on the side of the road.

Their Snyder's dozen has 14 corn cobs priced at $10 and their half dozen has seven cobs for $5. A single corn goes for $1. They're open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Watson Farms

This family-run farm market sells fresh produce from their farms in Bowmanville. The corn is priced at a dollar each. You can buy half a dozen for $5 or six husked cobs for $6. They also have a husking station where you can husk your corn.

They also offer many fun activities such as a sunflower maze experience, petting zoo, tractor rides and a play area. They're open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Herrle’s Country Farm Market

This family farm has been growing and selling sweet corn since 1964 in Waterloo. Their pre-picked sweet corn is available for 90 cents a piece at their farm market in St. Agatha.

They recommend to bring your own bags or bins, but they do provide compostable bags for those who need them. The farm is open Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Welsh Bros.

This farm has been in operation in Scotland Ontario since 1855. Here you can buy yellow and bi-colour corn by the bag, priced at $35 for four dozens. They are open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week.

McLean Berry Farm

This family-run farm, established in 1991 in Lakefield, has sweet corn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. through the week. You can buy corn for $1 each, a half dozen for $5.50 or full dozen for $10. A bag of five dozen goes for $45.

Harris Farms

Sweet corn is the first crop that was grown at this family owned and operated farm established in Springwater in 1986. They offer three varieties of sweet corn priced at $8 for 14, $4 for seven and 75 cents each.

The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Sweet Ridge Farms

This Toronto farm sells pre-picked corn for $1 a piece or a dozen for $10. They're open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

Johnstone’s Sweet Corn

You can buy sweet corn from this family-friendly farm in Coldwater. Corn sells for $1 each daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
