Toronto dessert shop is permanently closing and owner pens heartfelt goodbye

A Toronto dessert shop just announced they'll soon be closing down for good as its owner writes a heartfelt 'farewell.'

Oxley Street's Millie Patisserie recently took to Instagram announcing that their time in the Entertainment District would soon be up.

Open in the neighbourhood for nearly a decade and ahead of its time for at least half of that, Millie's owner, Christinn Hua, served French-inspired confections with Asian flavours — a sweet escape from the bustling streets of downtown Toronto.

All good things must come to an end eventually, though, and according to Christinn's recent announcement, that time has come for Millie Patisserie.

"I opened Oxley with a broken heart, and it’s with a broken heart I leave it," Christinn writes in the heartfelt closure announcement.

"But broken hearts can heal, and this broken heart may yet brim with hope once again."

She goes on to explain that, in spite of "the smiles, the laughter, the customers who became friends, the rare souls," that have filled the dessert shop over the years, they decided not to renew the lease on the bakeshop.

"I have the deepest gratitude for you, good friends, neighbours, customers, employees past and present, for touching my life in profound ways maybe you don’t realize, or have maybe forgotten in the chaos of life," Christinn writes.

While the shop will be closing this month, there has yet to be an official last service date announced, but, as of the time of publication, you've still got time to pick up a slice of mille crepe or a tart.

Millie Patisserie's goodies, Christinn adds, will also be available at Chotto Matte, Khao San Road and Matcha Matcha for the forseeable future as Millie Desserts transitions into its next chapter... whatever that may be.

Millie Patisserie is located at 12 Oxley Street.
