People in Toronto are obsessed with a certain type of dessert right now
Toronto is obsessed with cookie butter desserts and it shows. Establishments all across the city seem to offer some type of Biscoff-influenced dessert on their menu whether it's an ice cream or a latte.
Cookie butter - also called Biscoff Lotus after the brand of cookie - is essentially a speculoos cookie.
Born out of Belgium but popularized all across Europe, it later became an iconic airplane snack in North America. It has a distinctive cinnamon and caramel flavour.
Here's a look at some of the most interesting cookie butter offerings in Toronto.
The popular ice cream shop actually has two cookie butter flavours on rotation: Cookie Butter and Biscoff Cheesecake. Both are among the best-selling flavours in the shop.
Owner Luanne Ronquillo told me "The cookie butter flavour was originally a collaboration flavour with Reebok but it turned out so well we decided to keep it on the menu."
This vegan dessert shop has a Biscoff cheesecake donut and latte to pair.
Antoine Vautherot, owner of all 10 Dean's across the city explained that their Cookie Butter Latte is the second most popular drink on their menu. It comes both hot and iced and doesn't actually have any espresso.
Vautherot told me the biscuit was a childhood favourite growing up in France and in 2015 after moving to Canada, created the drink out of curiosity.
This new specialty croffle cafe in Koreatown serves up the most delightful toppings. In particular, the Lotus Croffle is topped with a generous amount of cookie crumbles
They tell me that "we experimented with many flavours, with a focus on croffles from Korea and Japan". It's their most popular croffle after the Tiramisu and the one "most people recommend to others".
A pumpkin pie meets Lotus Biscoff to create a warm spiced version of a classic Fall favourite.
It's available year round.
