“Coffee competitions are generally quite serious and a bit stuffy," said Grant Gamble, the creative director of the World AeroPress Champisonship in a press release.

Baristas from some of Toronto's top coffee companies will be competing, including representatives from De Mello Palheta Coffee Roasters, Pilot Coffee Roasters, Subtext Coffee, Fika Coffee, Hatch Coffee and more.

Players are sent Championship Coffee in the mail to practice and perfect their recipe. On the day of, they have five minutes to prepare and present their best cup using an AeroPress brewer.

Judges will then assess each cup of coffee blindly, based solely on taste. They will point to the cup they liked best and the winner will move to the next round until there is only one champion standing.

The winner will receive a a flight and two nights accomodation to compete in the National Championship in Calgary with a bypass card to go straight to the semi-finals.
