Fabricland Toronto
Fabricland Toronto near Yonge and Bloor replaces the the massive two-storey, 20,000 square-foot space previously occupied by H&M, standing out from its upscale neighbours, Louis Vuitton, Versace and Cartier.
As the name suggests, the store has a huge variety of fabrics, and it's easy to get overwhelmed, especially given the diversity and sheer volume of products on sale. Despite having a more bare-bones staff (at least during weekdays), the customer service is fairly swift since the store is quiet.
Broadcloth, twill, flannelette, satin, fleece, yarn, and others are sold by the metre (the price depends on your selection), but you can find other design accoutrements, too, like zippers, buttons, laces, dyes, and adhesives.
Bulk fabric is typically sold by the metre, and the price varies depending on the kind of fabric.
During my recent visit, it felt like everything was on sale, with "sizzling hot savings" signs strewn generously throughout the store.
Sheers cost $3/m, rug materials $8-$9/m, rayon/linen $14/m and baby-safe fabrics run $9/m.
You can also find curtain rods, pillows, and bedding, if you're so inclined, most of which was on sale for less than half its normal price during our visit.
The three-level store may be well-stocked, but with new developments planned for this exact address, it's likely this location will only be open until construction begins.
And while Fabricland has two other locations in Toronto, in the meantime, the huge Yonge & Bloor store at 15 Bloor St. W might be one of the best downtown spot for all your fabric and design needs.
