Ontario's most popular baby names of 2023 seem to prove that parents in the province are operating as some frightening sort of rattle-shaking, crib-rocking hive mind, as the list features almost exclusively the entries that have also occupied the top ranks for a number of years.

In fact, one name in particular marked its 15th consecutive year at the top of the list. Will it ever be dethroned? We'll have to wait another year to find out, and by then, we'll probably be more focused on naming our scary Tesla AI robot butlers than our children.

Maybe, in 2025, our collective New Year's resolution as Ontarians can be to take a more pet-centric approach to naming our human children.

I know that I, for one, would be a whole lot more interested to meet a newborn named Gizmo or Taco than — sigh — Emma or Liam.
