University of Toronto named among world's best in another category

Want a higher chance of being employed after you graduate? Several universities in Canada are likely to make that happen for you, according to a new ranking.

Times Higher Education (THE) released its Global Employability University Ranking 2025 on Thursday.

The ranking reveals which academic institutions recruiters at top companies worldwide think are best at preparing students for the workforce.

Ten schools in Canada appear on the global list designed by HR consulting firm Emerging.

"Canadian universities are popular with international students for offering cheaper tuition costs than many US colleges, as well as a simple application process," reads THE's report.

"Students thinking about graduate jobs will be pleased to hear that Canadian universities also maintain an excellent reputation with employers."

Several Canadian schools cracked the top 50 in the global list.

The University of Toronto took first place in the national ranking and 14th place in the global ranking.

"Many ideas and inventions that began at the University of Toronto have had a significant impact on the global economy, whether through start-ups, commercial partnerships or businesses," reads the report.

"The university's strategic priorities include strengthening international partnerships and reimagining undergraduate education to prepare students for lifelong learning."

McGill University placed second in the national ranking and 31st worldwide.

THE credited the university's Innovation Week for providing students with opportunities to connect with innovators and form industry partnerships.

"Three hubs for entrepreneurial students offer start-up competitions, technology-based projects, and support and mentorship," reads the ranking.

"Opportunities to learn beyond the classroom include entrepreneurship projects, internships, public speaking training and museum excursions."

On the West Coast, the University of British Columbia (UBC) placed third on the national list and 36th globally.

The ranking commended UBC's jobs and volunteering board where students and alumni can browse to find opportunities.

"UBC also gives employers the opportunity to recruit students from the university through careers fairs, recruitment booths and uploading jobs to the university's jobs board," reads the report.
