Shocking video shows man being dragged by speeding car on Ontario highway

Of all the car accidents and road rage incidents caught on camera in and around Toronto, a new clip of a man being dragged by an SUV travelling along a local freeway may be among the most astonishing.

The footage, which began going viral on social media Thursday night, was caught from inside a fellow vehicle heading westbound on the QEW in Oakville.

Though it is unclear at first why the car ahead in the righthand lane is being filmed, it becomes very evident once the passenger zooms in closer  — showing a pedestrian fully hanging off of the white SUV, dragging their feet along the pavement.

The driver of the offending vehicle, whether aware or unaware of their hitchhiker, continues to speed along for a few hundred metres as the camera pans in and out repeatedly, showing the errant individual quite calmly holding on for dear life as their clothing flutters in the wind.

The SUV eventually pulls off towards the Trafalgar Road exit when the filmer's driver starts flashing their headlights, trying to alert anyone in the other car to the unbelievable situation at hand.

Amazingly, the man appears unscathed as he lets go of the car once it reaches a brief stop. He can be seen rolling away, pants pulled clean off, as the car looks like it is about to pull over up ahead, and the video ends.

According to Halton Regional Police, who are investigating the case, this took place just before midnight on Wednesday, August 7.

"It was deemed to be non-criminal in nature as a person in crisis was attempting to enter a moving vehicle on the QEW," a spokesperson told blogTO on Friday.
