It was a wild weekend of extreme weather in Ontario, resulting in severe flooding and even a confirmed tornado that ripped through a small town.

Torrential downpours caused widespread flooding in the Greater Toronto Area on Saturday and Sunday.

The deluge started with a bang on Saturday, when a record-breaking rainfall total exceeding 128 mm fell on Toronto-Pearson International Airport, marking the rainiest day ever recorded at the airport.

Saturday saw countless cars submerged out in Mississauga, which, like the last major flooding in July, was disproportionately affected by floods compared to other cities in the region.

With today's torrential rainy conditions, Mississauga may see 100-200 mm of rain. 🌧️

Some people took advantage of these new temporary waterways, while others helped out people in distress.

Highways in the region proved problem zones for flooding over the weekend, as concrete dividers contained accumulating water.

Sunday proved similarly messy as even more rain descended on the province. One stretch of Highway 410 near Courtneypark was transformed into a raging river following downpours.

Some motorists even had to be rescued by firefighters in inflatable dinghies.

Floods were the main event in the Greater Toronto Area, though other areas of the province spent parts of the weekend under tornado watch. Ayr, Ontario was struck by a tornado on Saturday morning, causing damage to the town.
