Bilingual Toronto workers who speak these languages could get the highest salaries
If you're bilingual, consider yourself lucky, because being able to communicate in more than one language can be a highly marketable skill that justifies a higher salary and opens extra doors for opportunity.
And with Toronto being a multicultural city, it's also no surprise that a high percentage of in-demand jobs require workers who speak a foreign language.
Language learning platform Preply recently conducted a study of over 360,000 job ads to determine which languages companies in Toronto will pay the most for, along with which of these are most sought-after by employers in 2023.
The data for the study was sourced from the job search engine Adzuna and took into account job ads that were explicitly looking for foreign language skills.
According to the study, the most in-demand foreign language in Toronto is Spanish, which is mentioned in a third of job vacancies requesting a second language and comes with an average salary of $92,966.
Portuguese and Arabic followed closely behind in second and third place, with an average salary of $89,457 and $83,395 respectively.
Although French was not counted as a foreign language in the study, French-speaking jobs in Toronto paid on average $80,106 and would've ranked the fourth best-paid had they been included.
Here are Toronto's top lucrative languages to boost career earnings and their average salaries, according to the study:
