The rest of the world is finally cluing in on how to pronounce Toronto correctly
If you live in Toronto or basically anywhere else in Ontario, you definitely know how to pronounce the name of Canada's largest city.
Well now it seems finally, the rest of the world (or maybe Canada itself) is picking up on the correct way.
A recently published article from boingboing.net talks about the infamous second 't' in our city's name, which if pronounced properly is not to be said at all.
So can it be pronounced Turrono? Torrono? Churrano? Maybe even Trawna? Any is fine, as along as you don't say Tor-on-TOE.
According to the article, based on a study from 10and3, the majority of Canadians outside of Toronto pronounce the second 'T,' which is blatantly incorrect.
So just for the records, it's incorrect to add the 'toe' to the end of the city's name.
And of course, it's widely agreeded upon that this pronunciation is a bastardized version of T'karonto, a Mohawk word meaning "where there are trees standing in water," the original name of this place we call home.
