uber surge pricing

Toronto student crowdfunds to pay for pricey Uber ride

Halloween didn't end over the weekend for one Toronto student who's stuck with a frighteningly large Uber bill - $663.37 to be exact.

The student, who City News calls Daniel U, took an Uber Black Car from Toronto's Entertainment District to Brampton. The 50 minute trip included a hefty surge charge, likely because it was a chaotic night.

Daniel U is now using the crowdfunding site Go Fund Me in order to cover his exorbitant bill. He writes that it was his first time using the ride-sharing service.

However, his online campaign hasn't picked up steam yet. It's been up for nearly 24 hours and one person has contributed $5. Commenters, on the other hand, are plentiful.

Have you been a victim of Uber's surge pricing? Let us know in the comments.
