What is Toronto most famous for internationally?
What do people from other places think of when they think of Toronto? The question struck me yesterday when we pondered what would make a list of famous bars in Toronto. The temptation was to think that perhaps none of our finest drinking establishments have much recognition on an international stage, even if there's most certainly a local fame that's be cultivated. But what about other things? There are the cliches, of course, like our putatively terrible hockey team or maple syrup, but there's got to be more than that, right?
So we asked our Twitter followers to chip in with some ideas. Based on the responses we got, it's possible to put together a provisional top five list:
1. The Rob Ford crack scandal
2. TIFF
3. Drake
4. Multiculturalism
5. The CN Tower
What do you think of this representation of the city? Obviously it doesn't "get it right," but the list is pretty predictable. But what is it missing? What does Toronto possess or do really well that should garner more international attention? Leave your thoughts in the comments and check out a sample of the suggestions we received below.
