Condo of the Week: 500 Sherbourne Street
It never ceases to amaze me how different 900 square feet can feel depending on the layout of a place. You may recall the loft featured a few weeks ago at 347 Sorauren Avenue that was also 900 square feet and didn't appear nearly as compact as this unit. Just the photo of the office space here â sorry, second bedroom â makes me feel claustrophobic.
UPDATE: The original images that appeared in this post have been removed as per the note above.
Now that the suffocating feeling has passed, my attention is drawn to the open layout of the main living area. The island provides for some separation between the kitchen and living room while still being a large enough space to accommodate an average sized table. From the living room is a small step up and out to the patio which could be made into a real summer extension of your home. Outside of that, this is a pretty standard box in the sky.
The biggest downside here is, unfortunately, the neighbourhood. 500 Sherbourne sits like an island on the outskirts of an area better known for bed-bug plagued high rises than exciting new condo developments. It HAS improved over the years, but I would be reluctant to think it's going to improve enough over the next five years to warrant buying property.
SPECS:
NOTABLE FEATURES:
GOOD FOR:
The workaholic who has little time to explore their neighbourhood, or wants somewhere close to work to rest their head. It could also be an investment property, but realistically I don't know whether the ROI would be as high as it might be elsewhere in the city.
MOVE ON IF:
Like me, you think this is a crazy price for what you're getting. Not even a full second bedroom and some pretty standard features do not make this unit worth nearly the asking price.
