Jimmy's Coffee on Ossington
Jimmy's Coffee has opened a new location on Ossington. Replacing Silver Falls Vintage , the fourth edition to Jimmy's Coffee adds to a growing rivalry in a coffee crowded neighbourhood. Minutes away from Sam James , Starbucks and I Deal Coffee , Jimmy's latest shop is a welcome addition to the chain's West Queen West regulars who frequent Portland, Kensington and Gerrard Street locations.
The fourth location offers a thoughtful combination of everything the city's come to expect from Jimmy's: fireplace seating, arcadian dĂŠcor with exceptional coffee. A twin sister to Kensington's layout , this location is a freelancer's sanctuary with plenty of power outlets, comfortable seating and free WiFi to please everybody.
Craving thick-coated warmth, I ordered a classic latte upon my earlier-than-expected morning arrival. With a steady hand, the barista pulled the espresso shot from the Nuova Simonelli, a tech-intuitive espresso machine used across locations. Jimmy's Classic Coffee has a relaxing flavour profile that's bright with a subtle aftertaste.
Catering to the influx of health-conscious coffee-goers, Ossington's location offers a wide range of baked treats including gluten-free macaroons, vegan cookies, classic butter tarts and freshly-made croissants, muffins and scones.
All are supplied from local favourites like OMG Baked Goodness , Circle and Squares , Jules Patisserie and plant-based treats from Earth + City .
Natural light cascades into the seating area from the street-facing window, an inviting and homely workspace for studying students, shop owners, tourists and commuters. Tall bookshelves filled with encyclopaedias, Nature's Libraries and antique cigar cases add a quirky sophistication to the carefully curated decor.
Framed black-and-white photographs of Jimmy hang proudly; another tradition I've come to love about the place.
Overhead, a large ceiling mural stands out amongst flying geese that dangle by strings. Showpiece taxidermy is a must-have accessory when pairing with artisanal metallic backdrops, tall bookshelves and a rustic fireplace. It's the rural details that add a lived-in touch to the shop.
Fully equipped with memorable baristas and reliable coffee, the fourth location hints at growing ambitions for Jimmy's empire. Luckily for Jimmy's, devoted customers will continue to support the independent coffee shop as it builds humble credibility in trendy neighbourhoods. Starbucks on the hand might be in trouble.
