Fix Coffee + Bikes at The Well

Fix Coffee + Bikes is an all-in-one bike repair and coffee shop at The Well in Toronto.

Founded by former urban planner Fred Sztabinski, the community hub for bike and coffee lovers alike is the cafe's second location in Toronto, following years of success at its original shop near Gladstone and Queen

Sztabinski previously worked in the world of transportation for 15 years and tells blogTO that Fix Coffee + Bikes is a continuation of his desire to get more Toronto residents on bikes.

fix coffee bikes toronto"We saw an opportunity to be a bike shop for the downtown core where a lot of people are working, living, and biking every day," Sztabinski explained.

fix coffee bikes toronto"We are trying to create that same sense of community we have at our first location. People who go for fun, recreational rides over the weekend can stop here for coffee before or after they go, or someone who needs their bike serviced can grab a coffee while they are waiting."

Sztabinski emphasized that the shop is not exclusively devoted to bike repairs or coffee, but rather a combination of the two, without one overshadowing the other.

fix coffee bikes torontoThat harmonious relationship is evident as soon as you enter the shop, as a rack of bike accessories draws you to the right and the cafe counter invites you to steer left.

Featured products line the counter, including items from Black and queer-owned Ghost Town Oats, Soul Chocolate, and Prana Chai, as well as Toronto-based companies Java Roasters, and The Angry Roaster Coffee Co.

fix coffee bikes torontoWhile you browse the shop's impressive collection or wait for your bike to get serviced, you can grab one of their many baked goods made in-house, including my personal favourite, the salted chocolate chip cookie ($4).

fix coffee bikes torontoIf chocolate isn't your thing, I highly recommend the triple berry muffin ($6.50), which offers a burst of tangy sweetness with each bite.

fix coffee bikes torontoLooking for something more savoury? Try the spinach and feta hand pie ($6), featuring a flakey crust and a chewy filling.

Aside from your classic coffee shop drinks like espresso, lattes, and Americanos, the shop will be offering a small selection of refreshing and handcrafted drinks just in time for the summer.

fix coffee bikes torontoIf you're a matcha lover, you'll definitely want to try the iced strawberry matcha ($7), a foamy and layered concoction with a decadent base of strawberry coulis.

Biking around Toronto during the summer months will definitely get you parched, and the shop offers two variations of your classic lemonade to keep you hydrated.

fix coffee bikes torontoThe first is the iced tea lemonade ($6) featuring ginger twist tea, which offers all of the thirst-quenching benefits of a typical lemonade plus a fiery kick.

fix coffee bikes torontoThe iced lavender lemonade ($6) is much more subtle, offering a sweet and floral aftertaste.

fix coffee bikes torontoIf you're a no-frills type of coffee drinker, the shop offers drip coffee in both eight-ounce ($3.15) and 12-ounce formats ($3.50).

fix coffee bikes torontoWhile some customers stop in just for coffee, others browse the shop's meticulously lined back walls full of bikes, helmets, and accessories.

fix coffee bikes torontoUpstairs on the mezzanine level, a team of expert bike mechanics diligently engage in repair work and reach for tools carefully lined along a bright pink wall.

fix coffee bikes torontoWhether you're looking to have your bike repaired, shop for gear, grab a coffee — or all three — Sztabinski says the shop offers an inviting atmosphere for everyone.

fix coffee bikes toronto"We think coffee and bikes go great together," he told blogTO. "So we wanted to bring that part of our concept here to The Well."
