Le Tigre
Le Tigre is a cocktail bar in Rosedale serving up drinks under the glow of Barbie pink lights.
A venture from the people behind Cry Baby Gallery, co-owners Rob Granicolo and Stephen Gouzopoulos took inspiration from the bars of London's affluent Mayfair neighbourhood to come up with something completely different from their other business.
The bar is actually located on the second floor — past a flight of stairs lined with palm tree wallpaper — where a cozy space awaits those looking to steal a moment away from the bustling city.
A large pink quartz island bar takes centre stage with plush velvet seating available at group-friendly tables and the more intimate bartop.
Statues and paintings of tigers — as in "le tigre" — can be found around the room.
The team here is focused on delivering well-crafted drinks that aren't afraid to be playfully cheeky with names like Dirty Dancing and Ashley Madison.
Silk Sheets ($22) is a spirit-forward glass that mixes hazelnut fat-washed cognac, banana, bourbon, mole spice, and a dry fino sherry that keeps the drink from being overly spicy. Served with a banana leaf, approach this one with boozy caution.
Bound to be a crowd favourite is the Cheerleader ($16). It's a tart and fresh negroni sour that combines overproof rum and housemade grapefruit syrup and is topped with raspberries.
A spin on a tiki classic, Bahama Mama ($19) will be familiar to most. Rum, pineapple, vanilla, and tamarind are served on crushed ice for a refreshing sip. What makes this drink extra special is a macadamia nut syrup that adds a beautiful silky nuttiness.
For spicy margarita lovers, try Basic Instinct ($18). Served in a tall glass with an equally tall block of ice, tequila is shaken with Serrano chili peppers, coriander syrup liqueur, and honeydew. Strained and served rimmed with chunky black Himalayan salt, it's a perfect balance of salty and spicy.
Besides the selection of original cocktails, there's also a solid martini menu to explore while here.
The classic Dirty Martini ($18) comes poured in an ice-cold frozen glass on a silver tray that offers a pickled accoutrement selection. Ketel One, vermouth, and house brine is pre-mixed and ready to serve.
Compared to other martinis in town, this one fares on the lighter end and the dirty level is customizable based on what sour item you decide to chase with.
Don't miss the discreet door next to the piano store, and be sure to arrive early if you plan on dropping by as they don't take reservations.
Le Tigre is located at 1060 Yonge St.
