Unholy Donuts on Bay
Unholy Donuts beckons Toronto donut enthusiasts with a range of indulgent brioche-style donuts in a variety of flavours.
Unholy Donuts' assortment caters to both chocolate lovers and those who like a fruity twist to their desserts.
The specialty here is in filled and unfilled donuts in flavours like Ferrero Rocher, Nutella Bomb, Banana Delight and Strawberry Cheesecake.
This is the brand's second brick-and-mortar store, with the first being on Maitland Street in the Village.
This location opened in January 2023 and has since gathered a loyal customer base who can get their hands on fresh donuts as early as 8.30 a.m on most days.
The whimsical, cozy interiors of Unholy Donuts feature donut graffiti in shades of bright pink and green that instantly liven up the space. A neon-lit store sign at the door invites you to stop by and take a quick peek at what's cooking inside the storefront.
"We currently have 12 flavours and hope to slowly introduce more," Unholy Donuts' co-owner tells blogTO. Each of the donuts resembles mini-cakes and is infused with custard that's made in-house.
Depending on the donut, the custard filling may come in flavours such as vanilla, strawberry or raspberry.
The donuts can often take hours to make since the brioche-style base requires more time to achieve its fluffy and gooey texture.
"We take our time because we want to ensure that the donuts taste great while also upholding the quality of the brand," the co-owner notes.
While Unholy Donuts' Bay Street location currently serves dairy products, vegan items could soon be a part of its line-up.
"There's a huge demand for vegan donuts and we want to be able to adapt to the needs of the community and expand our selection," the co-owner adds.
The Ferrero Rocher donut ($5.95) was my favourite. It's also a favourite among customers and features a tasty blend of nutty flavours and a rich, creamy texture.
The chocolate pastry cream filling paired with the Belgian milk chocolate ganache makes for an irresistible treat. It's topped with a piece of Ferrero Rocher for a bit of crunch as you dig into the donut.
Opt for the Nutella Bomb ($5.75) if you're looking for a decadent treat, filled with Nutella and topped with Belgian milk chocolate mousse, ganache and caramelized toasted hazelnut.
For anyone who likes flavours of strawberry and chocolate together, Spring Fever ($5.25) is a great choice.
The strawberry pastry cream, chocolate ganache and white chocolate mousse come together perfectly in this soft and creamy donut.
Unholy Donuts is located at 596 Bay Street and is open daily until 8.30 p.m.
