Tripl3 Baked
Tripl3 Baked is a bakery in Markham that's been making waves for its delectable cupcakes, cakes and other confections. This place was opened in July 2014 by three long-time friends (hence the name Tripl3 Baked) who gave up their day jobs to fulfill their dreams of opening a bakery.
The storefront here is quite small with only a couple of tables outside. Pink walls, teal accents and dark flooring give the space a charming, but still urban look. The glass display case is filled with a good selection of beautiful cupcakes to showcase what's on offer.
The bulk of the menu is made up of cupcakes, with the supporting roster filled out by cookies and mini donuts. The cupcake selection ranges from classics like vanilla and triple chocolate to more creative selections like French toast and sundae.
I start with the French toast cupcake ($3), which consists of cinnamon cake infused with maple syrup topped with vanilla cream cheese frosting. This cupcake is absolutely divine. Subtle hints of cinnamon in the extremely moist cake are counterbalanced by the rich frosting with a hint of maple to give one a true french toast sensation.
The salted caramel cupcake ($3) is a chocolate cake topped with vanilla meringue cream and salted caramel drizzle. The chocolate cake is rich, and the meringue topping is marshmallow-like. Topped with a slightly salty caramel sauce, this cupcake is beyond decadent.
The real winner from my visit, however, is the chocolate chip cookie ($1). One bite into this bad boy and my mind was blown. The cookie is quite thick and leaves one wondering how a cookie this moist can exist (my guess is copious amounts of butter). My only recommendation is that these delicious cookies be devoured with a big glass of milk.
The daily cupcake menu is steady with a rotating flavour of the week. Simple custom cakes or meringues can be ordered a few days in advance, while more elaborate cakes will need to be ordered a few weeks in advance.
In this under served part of Markham it's excellent to see a bakery dishing up some rich and decadent flavours that will please even the most discerning sweet tooth.
