Bomou Artisanal Bakery Rosedale
Bomou Artisanal Bakery's Rosedale location is a Parisienne style bakery-cafe that serves everything from croissants to coffee. It's the second to bear the Bomou name.
The first Bomou, which opened amid the 2020 lockdowns, can be found near the corner of Bayview and Manor Road in Leaside.
Azar Sabzevari manages the franchise with her sister Negar, with Negar working in the kitchen and Azar handling the business side.
Negar spends most of her time at the Bayview location, while Azar divides her time evenly between the two bakeries.
Despite the vast distance between them, Azar tells blogTO that many customers from the Bayview store have migrated over to the Rosedale location, which is closer to where they work.
Azar also claims that the two stores were designed with different clientele in mind.
While the Bayview store has a quieter, more family-oriented feel, the Rosedale location operates under the assumption that most customers will be ordering their food to go.
Though both bakeries share a similar aesthetic, with black signage, brown furniture and white walls, the new location has one thing that the original lacks: a dedicated ice cream counter!
Nestled near the back of the dining room lies an alcove filled with ice cream making equipment, including a soft serve machine.
Though the bakery only offers a limited number of flavours, Azar tells me that these sweet treats have been a hit with both new and returning customers.Customers have also taken a liking to the bakery's selection of sandwiches and salads, which are exclusive to the Rosedale location.Of course, the most popular items on the menu are the ones offered by both locations. The iced strawberry lemonade ($4.95/small, $5.95/medium, $6.50/large) is one of Bomou's signature drinks, made with tangy lemonade and fresh strawberry syrup. The iced matcha latte ($5.25/small, $5.95/medium, $6.95/large) blends the bitterness of green tea with the sweetness of an iced latte, creating an ideal summer drink.Scones ($4.95) come in a variety of different flavours, including blueberry and apricot almond.
The latter is somewhat tart, with the nuts contributing a crunchy texture, while the former is sweet with a slight sour aftertaste.
Pain au chocolat ($3) are thick, oblong pastries filled with dark chocolate. The flaky crust contrasts beautifully with the sticky chocolate inside, making it a popular choice for diners of all ages.Mini baguettes ($2.45) can be ordered with or without sesame seeds. Regardless of which type you choose, both baguettes are thick and crusty and can be topped with any number of tasty spreads. The smoked salmon and cream cheese sandwich ($12.75) is a colourful dish, consisting of red salmon, white cream cheese and green cucumbers on a striking black sesame seed bun. Strawberry shortcakes ($12) are served in tiny jars, filled to the brim with spongy dough, soft cream and juicy strawberries. The blueberry vanilla soft serve ($8.50) is a swirly mass of blue and white ice cream, served in a crunchy cone.
A flower-shaped garnish, made from creamy white chocolate, adds some extra whimsy to the already adorable treat. The strawberry soft serve sundae ($10.50) is equally adorable, with a decorative wafer and a generous drizzle of homemade jam.By bringing Bomou to a new neighbourhood, Negar and Azar hope to expand their culinary horizons and share their creations with a different demographic.Bomou Artisanal Bakery Rosedale is located at 1075 Yonge Street.
