Summer festival will transform entire Toronto neighbourhood with murals and art

There's a huge festival coming to Toronto next month that'll cover an entire neighbourhood in artwork.

Think art belongs exclusively inside of museums? The return of the Yorkville Murals Festival this August might just change your mind.

Taking over Yorkville for an entire weekend, the festival is centred around the theme of 'No Empty Spaces,' and they're taking that theme quite literally, putting original works of art and murals in every corner of the neighbourhood, from parking lots to TTC stations and the air in between.

You'll be able to stroll Yorkville Avenue from Bellair to Hazelton as you check out breathtaking murals, art installations, inflatables, live painting as well as pop-up shopping, dance battles, live music and a block party in the evening to keep the vibes up.

Among the art installations you'll be able to see at this year's festival are a majestic mirrored chandelier at Lower Bay Station, a pop-up balloon flower shop and garden by Toronto-based business, Ballooms and a huge bus that you can watch get painted live over the course of the weekend.

This year also marks the first time food will be incorporated in the festival, with chef Antonio Park (AP Restaurant) teaming up with the festival to offer elevated street food option, letting culinary arts enter the fold.

You'll even be able to play a round or two of chess at the festival, with Knightcap, the city's grooviest pop-up chess club, setting up camp all weekend long.

The Yorkville Murals Festival runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug 24 and Sunday, Aug 25, and is completely free for all to attend.

For more details on the events that'll take place over the course of the weekend, visit Yorkville Murals' website or follow them on social media at @yorkvillemurals.
