Immersive Dr. Seuss experience opens in Toronto this month

It's a prospect few kidults could ever resist: Entering the fictional world of a favourite childhood storybook character. I mean, why else are Harry Potter (butter) beer crawls a thing?

This fall, fans of Dr. Seuss and the wild, wonderous universe he created through his iconic children's books will have a chance to do just that — to enter the world of Seuss in a way not previously possible.

Tickets go on sale today at 12 p.m. for the highly-anticipated world premiere of "The Dr. Seuss Experience" right here in the GTA.

Described as a "Seuss-tacular, sensory spectacle," the interactive, 15,000-square-foot exhibit will open in a standalone space at Mississauga's Square One from October 26 until January 5, 2020, before making its way to other, yet-to-be-announced North American cities.

The immersive experience will feature at least nine different Dr. Seuss books, each with their owned themed rooms, allowing visitors a chance to "magically step into the pages" of such works as Oh, The Places You'll Go!, The Lorax, Horton Hears a Who and The Sneetches.

Being that the experience will be in Mississauga over the holiday season, the GTA stop will exclusively feature room dedicated to How the Grinch Stole Chrismas.

"A very special seasonal room dedicated to Dr. Seuss's favorite Christmas character will feature surprise activities designed to help guests embrace the holiday season," reads the description of that room from Kilburn Live, which is producing the tour in conjunction with Dr. Seuss Enterprises.

"Our goal from the beginning was always to create a space where visitors could step from one book into another, and this experience will make that dream a reality," said Seuss Enterprises president Susan Brandt in a press release on Monday morning.

"This type of attraction wouldn't be Seussian without these iconic books inspiring every aspect of the Experience, and we still have a few fun surprises left that guests will only be able to see in person."

Among the "sneak peak" details of individual rooms announced today are:

  • A fantastical maze constructed from thousands of colourful balloons.
  • An endless sea of Sneetches surrounding guests in a special mirrored room.
  • A room full of clovers creating a beautiful tableau where, if they're very quiet, guests can listen for Who's calling out for help to find a special clover.
  •  A choose-your-own-adventure style room where guests will be guided into completely different worlds based on the choices they make.

A limited number of pre-sale passes sold out fast, according to the companies behind the exhibit, so get them while you can starting at noon on Monday October 1.
