iSummit New Media Conference
I've spent the day at the iSummit new media conference, taking place at MaRS. It's been a pretty interesting day as the organizers have brought in a bunch of new media types (and some old media too) including Matt Mullenweg from Wordpress, JD Lasica from OurMedia and LuLu founder (and former Red Hat CEO) Bob Young.
A recurring theme throughout the day has been copyright infringement. Predictably, traditional content creators (or those who represent them) and outfits like the MPAA were all up in arms about their content being ripped off and mashed-up across the internet; while others such as Jake Gold stressed that the aforementioned needed to adjust their business models to the realities of the web rather than try to force consumers and new media companies to conform to the old way of doing things.
Here. Here.
More info on the iSummit blog which is being published from a bunch of recent grads from the Habit New Media Lab.
For Wordpress fans out there, there's a meetup at 7pm tonight at Pauper's Pub to chat with Matt.
