Toronto's other axe throwing league eyes global expansion

Axe throwing may sound like the most stereotypically Canadian pastime. But, it's an activity that's grown in popularity across Toronto due in part to the success of the Backyard Axe Throwing League (BATL).

Now Toronto's other axe throwing league, Bad Axe Throwing, which already has four locations in the GTA (including one in Toronto), wants to go global and has launched a Kickstarter campaign to get started.

The company hopes to open up 10 new locations over the coming 12 months. It's planning to expand to Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver next. And, it has its eyes set on other Canadian cities as well. Afterwards, its looking to bring the sport south to the United States.

Its Kickstarter campaign has a monetary goal of $40,000 but it's also aiming to raise awareness for urban axe throwing through the crowdfunding site. Backers can pledge anywhere from $5-$5,000 to earn rewards such as toques, axe throwing packages and an adorable baby viking hat and beard.

A visit to one of the existing locations will set you back $44.25, but you can bring your own food and beer to your axe throwing party.

Do you think axe throwing will have global popularity? Let us know in the comments.
