You Care Too Much : A Book Launch

Help us celebrate the launch of You Care Too Much, a collection of art writing on the question of self care.

"Self-care" has become a buzzword Listicles, Instagram, and GOOP remind us to take a break, treat ourselves we deserve it. But its not enough to hear Gwyneth say that, so matter-of-factly, without it feeling like its just another thing were expected to make time for, another thing we should be doing well. What happens when a hot bath or pedicure isnt enough? Where is the guide that will lead us to real healing, in the moments we need it most?

These are the questions that inspired seventeen contributors to tackle defining the value of self care and the very related theme of caring for others in their own lives. The result is a dynamic and surprising collection of art, photography, confessional writing, poetry, and fiction about the great search for our best selves.

We learn that self care looks differently to each of us. It is a balancing act; It is conscious self-preservation; Its a non-linear journey to healing. Responsibility to yourself means learning to respect and use your own brains and instincts, and being able to say, like Charlotte Bront's Jane Eyre: I have an inward treasure born with me, which can keep me alive if all the extraneous delights should be withheld or offered only at a price I cannot afford to give. Adrienne Rich, 1977.

You Care Too Much features work from these brave contributors: Tallulah Fontaine, Winnie Truong, Anabela Piersol, Brooke Manning, Angela Lewis, Jessika Hepburn, Leah Horlick, Vicky Lam, Jen Spinner, Christina Yan, Adina Tarralik Duffy, Kathryn Bondy, Erin Klassen, Sofia Mostaghimi, Nada Alic, Naomi Moyer, and Mo Handahu.
