Sugar Beach Sugar Shack

A Qubec-style cabane sucre is coming to downtown Toronto, complete with maple taffy, traditional French Canadian music and food.

The Sugar Shack at Sugar Beach is on for one weekend only. This is a free event for people of all ages -- especially anyone who loves maple syrup!

This event is presented by Waterfront Toronto and Quebec Original, with support from Redpath Sugar, PortsToronto, Cityzen Real Estate Group, The Daniels Corporation and Corus Entertainment. More info at: http://www.sugarshackto.ca/

WHAT TO DO:

There will be live musical performances all weekend by local French artists Stef Paquette, Amlie & Les Singes Bleus , Cindy Doire and Melanie Brule, plus a traditional French Canadian folk group.

Feel like singing? Choir! Choir! Choir! will also lead a massive outdoor sing-along on March 12.

Feel like dancing? Local group Mur du Son is teaming up with caller Donna MacLeod to lead a traditional French Canadian contra dance from the outdoor stage on March 13.

If you want to discover how maple sap becomes maples syrup, cooking demonstrations will be happening at the Sugar Shack all weekend. There will also be ice carving demonstrations.

Bring your skates and burn off your sugar high with a few laps around Sherbourne Common's outdoor skating rink, just steps away from Sugar Beach.

WHAT TO EAT:

Food trucks will serve up Qubcois favourites and hot drinks. Against the Grain Urban Tavern, located right next to Sugar Beach, will have its waters edge patio open all weekend for drinks and meals.

And, of course, there will be lots of maple syrup to taste.

GETTING THERE:

Sugar Beach is an 8-minute ride from Union Station on the 6 Bay bus.

The Sugar Shack Shuttle will also be making trips between Union Station, the Distillery District and Sugar Beach all weekend.

You can ride your bike along the Martin Goodman Trail straight to the event entrance.

If you're driving, parking is available on site.
