Everyone knows all about southern bbq: it's regional variants, it's local history and deep rooted traditions across the Southern United States. It get's all the fancy press. It's the home coming queen. It's the most popular kid in class.

But anyone who's ever frozen their butts off standing out in front of a grill in a Toronto winter will tell you that the North has barbecue traditions and it's time they got some love as well. So on July 12, 2015 with the help of some of the city's finest pit bosses and grill masters, Spotlight City is going to show our southern cousins how we Northerners do things.

Northern BBQ will be light-years ahead of your typical ribfest. This event will explore barbecue and grilled food influenced by barbecue culture in the USA and beyond, filtered through the talents of the most innovative and creative culinary minds the province has to offer. If it can be grilled, fried, smoked, sandwiched or stuck on a stick, we’ll have it. This is BBQ the Canadiana way and will be the unofficial start of outdoor eating season.

In true Spotlight City fashion, the vendor line up for Northern BBQ will include some of the most inventive and creative chefs from Toronto and beyond. Stay tuned for complete vendor line-up coming soon.
