SpeakEasy's November Jam Session
SpeakEasy Jam Sessions are social gatherings for creative individuals! Artists, designers, craft makers, curators, gallery owners and collectors come together for a casual evening of ideas, queries and good conversation. Each month a selected artist makes a short digital presentation of his or her work. This is a new opportunity for artists to share their creative vision and to receive valuable feedback from their peers. SpeakEasy is a supportive and informal setting allowing for a free flowing exchange among likeminded community members.
This Month's Featured Artist Lumir Hladik
Lumr Hladk was born in former Czechoslovakia. In the years between 1976 and 1981, Hladk, along with Karel Miler, Petr tembera, Jan Mloch and Ji Kovanda, have been performing action art in various parts of the country. Hladk has adopted a very distinctive form of body art, described as arranging derailed situations, documenting his art in photography and 8mm film. His early work, influenced by totalitarian politics, has explored self-referentiality and determinism. Moving to Canada in 1981 changed his life and his direction. Hladk connected with the Canadian wilderness. He spent two decades studying natural scenes of entropy. His work now revolves around the current societys lack of humility and entitlement addiction.
