A wild leap of originality, dripping with sweat, blood, and black magic, this is the first modern horror flick from Hong Kong, and it features the most impeccable martial arts in the genre. Having now gained a reputation as one of the most reliable and creative directors at leading Hong Kong studio Golden Harvest, Sammo Hung re-invented the action-horror genre with this one.
Sammo stars as Cheung the Brave, a local hero who is framed for the murder of his wife who has run off with a town official. Eager to get Cheung out of the picture, the official hires an evil Taoist priest who uses dark magic and evil trickery, including hopping vampires and possessed corpses in an effort to knock our hero down. Through his swift kung-fu skills and quick thinking, Cheung able to escape death and hire a supernatural coach of his own in order to defend himself from the increasingly threatening legions of the netherworld. Only spook-fu can save Cheung now. Fight, Sammo, fight!
This high energy combination of kung fu, special effects and horror proved to be another ouststanding success for Harvest and efeectively created an entire sub-genre in the world of Hong Kong filmmaking. (in Cantonese with English subtitles)
