Jealousy Mountain Duo Petra Glynt Not The Wind, Not The Flag Zaum
JEALOUSY MOUNTAIN DUO https://jealousymountainduo.bandcamp.com
German improvisational jazz meets psych meets math rock duo return to Toronto after a ripping performance at last years Against Life. Guitar & drums move from languid mathy structures to gnarly jazz shred guitar work over herky jerky drum patterns. Driving rhythms and chunky guitar phrases dance with each other in a mad dash. Guitar tones distort into a blistering psych melt down, sounding like some blasted out electronics. Diverse in favour, but held together by a strong continuity & unspoken language. Don't miss one of the heaviest European duos of our time.
PETRA GLYNT http://petraglynt.bandcamp.com
Alex MacKenzie's Petra Glynt project continues grow a world and language of it's own. Live percussion intermingles with drum machines, loops & mashed up samples. Alex's voice is strong & demanding, as it dances in & out of her thumping bass loops and etherial vocal exercises. Drawing on the power of her building din, she conjures up a well of entrancing beat driven experimental soul jams.
NOT THE WIND, NOT THE FLAG http://notthewindnottheflag.bandcamp.com/
Colin Fisher & Brandon Valdivia's genre spanning free improv. duo draw inspiration from psych, jazz, noise, traditional musics and their own brotherly connectivity, Colin & Brandon build familiar structures in an improvised setting. From gentle kalimba noodlings over impatient drums, they build into wells of space psych guitar noise only to deconstruct again into a whisper of bells and gongs. One of the most versatile & interesting acts in the city.
ZAUM https://zaum.bandcamp.com
Moncton psych drone duo push out slow moving notes that linger in the air like a dust mist. Creeping oscillating tones move above the pounding sludge guitar work of true destroyers. Lost mysticism reveals it grotesque head in some sacrilegious ceremony. Soulless vocals stick in the air, mingling with the lost treble of Zaum's obliterating guitar drone. Come get heavy.
