International Sake Day

Toronto Common has been invited to the Sake Insitute of Ontario's (SIO) International Sake Day and Toronto International Sake Challenge (TISC) Celebrations!

October 1st is International Sake Day and the Sake Instiute of Ontario will be celebrating Friday September 30th by announcing (and offering tastings) of the winners of the 3rd annual Toronto International Sake Challenge!

Over 100 sakes were entered in 6 catergories; honjozo, junmai, ginjo, daiginjo, sparkling and nigori. All sakes must be available in Ontario to be entered.

8 judges from Toronto, New York, and Vancouver including 2 Sake Samurais (a designation given to only 64 sake ambassadors world wide by the government of Japan), as well as wine and sake sommeliers, industry experts and educators tasted sake for over 9 hours to select 3 winners in each category.

The Sake Day celebrations will including tastings from each of the categories including winners as well as over 30 sakes from 8 agencies as well as a selection of cheese and charcuterie provided by Cheese Boutique and a special Teriyaki burger by the Teriyaki Burger Project, a unique collaboration with a baker, butcher and chef to create the ultimate teriyaki buger with gourmet sides.

And for some additional fun, the SIO will be hosting a blind taste test contest with prizes for the testers that can tell the difference in grade, rice and style of 3 sakes.

Tickets include all tastings in the spirit of responsible drinking.

Established in 2012, the Sake Institute of Ontario (SIO) is a not-for-profit trade organization of Ontario-based sake distributors and manufacturers with the principal objective of educating and promoting the responsible consumption and enjoyment of sake.

The SIO is the organizer of Kampai Toronto, the largest sake festival in Canada and continues to focus on educating & increasing awareness of sake through events, seminars & content sharing both online & via social media.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PURCHASING:

All tickets must be purchased online the night before the event by 11pm.

No tickets will be available at the door.

Guests should arrive 5 minutes prior to event to check-in.

Tickets must be presented (printed or electronically) to check-in.

Each ticket is a unique one-time use code and cannot be shared.

Must be 19 years or older to attend.
