Boogat
Splitting his time between Montreal and Mexico City, Boogat came to national attention with his 2016 JUNO Award for World Music Album of the Year with Neo-Reconquista. Having earned his chops in Quebec City’s hip-hop scene, he has constantly reinvented himself across his prolific discography and unique artistic approach. His forceful and witty rapping seamlessly blends with programmed and live instrumentation and crosses genre boundaries including cumbia, reggaeton, salsa, hip-hop, worldbeat, tropical bass and more. Proof of his adventurousness lies not only in his music but also in the list of other boundary-defying artists with whom he’s worked: turntablist Kid Koala, Afro-futuristic electro-beat artist Pierre Kwenders, Quebecois pop star Marie-Mai, Argentinian electronic producer Mati Zundel and more.
Los Poetas
From Toronto and Vancouver by way of Chile, El Salvador and Argentina, the three members of Los Poetas come together and bring a Latino experience soaked in hip hop culture. The group speaks to the struggles and injustices that exist in their homeland and their duty to preserve their Latin roots through beats and rhymes. Employing “Spanglish,” the trio fluently incorporates both English and Spanish in their music like no others, allowing them to bridge the gap between the Americas – and beyond. Skilled in the trade of that ol’ boom-bap, “Los Poetas” are true masters that represent the voice of the youth unheard.
