HUNTCLUB is pleased to present Neighbourhoods, a mobile photography exhibition showcasing the work of ten Toronto photographers. Having followed their instragram feeds over some time, curator Darlene Huynh approached the photographers with a task to document the places they live, work, and play using only their mobile phone. The photographers were selected based on their aesthetic appreciation of our fine city.
The artists whose aesthetics lend a romantic charm to the familiar corners of the everyday rediscovered neighbourhoods from Cabbagetown to the Financial District to the Junction. Among the fifty images on display you won’t see snapshots of the CN Tower or City Hall. These views of Toronto are postcards of another kind: intimate, abstract, sometimes unrecognizable. Huynh’s vision is to illustrate the changing narrative of a diverse, evolving city through today’s most commonplace lens.
Darlene Huynh is the gallery director and curator at HUNTCLUB. Huynh spends her days and nights hunting talent and inspiration in the details and dialogues offered by friends and strangers. The gallery supports emerging and established artists alike, aiming to inspire a discourse of appreciation for the creative process within the community. Drawn to the sensational and the sentimental, Huynh is constantly looking for a new story to tell.
