Human Rights Panel: Trans Rights in the New Generation
All over the world, we are witnessing a new frontier in human rights activism, with transgender folks the focus of civil rights conversations. Proposed legislation in the United States specifically targets trans youth, in an effort to discriminate against LGBT people as a whole, while Canada still has much further to go to achieve trans rights equality.
Young trans activists will discuss how their lives have changed for the better, how they want to influence thought and behavior, and some of the ways the platforms for speaking about equality are used for and against transgender people. Panelists include two-spirited genderqueer activist Teddy Syrette Batchewana First Nation, Sault Ste. Marie, transgender man of colour Jae DelaCruz Toronto, YouTube personality and transgender woman Stef Peloza Toronto, and The 519s Education and Training Facilitator, two-spirited transgender woman of colour Dani Araya Toronto.
