GOING FORWARD - a fundraiser for Sistering, a Toronto Based women's shelter
This summer a men's rights activist organization that erroneously refers to itself as the "Canadian Association for Equality" tried to throw a festival on Toronto Island under false pretenses. Word of dubious booking practices quickly spread and thankfully the festival was cancelled shortly thereafter.
This fundraiser is an attempt to call into question the validity of the idea of "men's rights" and underscore the ever present need for a feminist counterpoint to the imagined problem of "men's rights".
This is an inclusive event. All ages are welcome and it will take place all day starting from 1pm til last call at 2am. It is intended to be a positive, welcoming environment. Productive dialogue is encouraged.
All funds raised by this event will be donated to Sistering, a Toronto based women's shelter/outreach program.
The activities at the beginning of the day will take place in the front room of the Garrison and will include :
An art workshop with Erica Beyea of Girls Art League!
A clothing drive!
A talk about the challenges of navigating the internet as a young woman by Stephanie Guthrie!
A performance by Girls Rock Camp alumni Pins & Needles and Unfinished Business!
