Basquiat Idea Bar: Fame
ean-Michel Basquiat was one of the most celebrated artists of the 1980s, rocketing from graffiti artist to famed Neo-Expressionist painter in only two years. As a downtown art celebrity, Basquiat embodied the American dream of money, glamour, and success, collaborating with Andy Warhol, appearing on MTV and walking the runway in a Comme des Garçons fashion show. With special guests from Kiki Ballroom Alliance and Shinan Govani we explore the question: what is the relationship of fame to creativity?
Idea Bar is a weekly presentation that combines workshops, performance, music, dance, and conversation. The AGO invites artists, curators, and other creative thinkers to share their latest projects and ideas in the AGO’s Walker Court. Idea Bar programs will feature open and informal discussions to encourage debate and conversation: all voices are welcome.
