The Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a bitmap image format that was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability. Many net artists have adopted the format for web driven artworks and exhibitions.
Toronto video artist Peter Rahul will be presenting a variety of unique and innovative ways artists have been using GIFs to their advantage. Rahul will also be guiding participants through the creation of their very own GIFs. If you wish to create your own animated GIF, please bring/download the following:
BRING
-Laptop with Mac OSX or Windows & Wifi capabilities
-A short (1-5 second) video clip OR a series of images

DOWNLOAD & INSTALL
1. Photoshop (at least version CS3 Extended)
>CS3 Ext is the first version to include the “Animation” palette, which is required for making anitmated gifs
2. GIMP

Peter Rahul is a Toronto-based digital media artist specializing in glitch methodologies. As a techno-archaeologist, Rahul explores the limits of vintage electronics in hopes of discovering unknown functions. Since graduating from OCAD University in 2013, Rahul’s work has been exhibited in Toronto, New York, Bordeaux & Milan.
