The top 5 free events in Toronto: July 11-17 2016

The top free events in Toronto this week include a basketball movie under the stars, Mexican music (also under the stars), and Shakespeare's Hamlet.... under some stars as well. It's July! Go sit outside as much as you humanly can! And, in this case, leave your wallet at home.

Here are my picks for the top free events in Toronto this week.

Shakespeare in the Park: Hamlet (July 12)
Every Tuesday and Thursday until the end of August, catch Hamlet, live on stage in the middle of High Park. It's truly a beautiful experience, and is officially Canada's largest and longest-running professional outdoor theatre show. Bring bug spray, a blanket and a traveller goblet. This is PWYC, so cough up a few bucks if you can.

Under the Stars film fest: Love and Basketball (July 13)
This is more than just a movie screening. Enjoy food at Taste of Regent Park from 5-8:30 p.m., pre-show entertainment, and then the screening of this sporty classic.

Ritmo y Color (July 15-17)
Can't make it to Mexico this year? Get as close as possible to the colourful, vibrant streets of the Central American city with this waterside weekend party. Food, music, art, and a special performance from LuchaT.O. are all on tap. Arrrriba!

Franco-Fete (July 15-17)
Francophone folks takeover Yonge and Dundas Square for their annual celebration near Bastille Day. The lineup includes French almost-superstars like Melanie Brulee, Mehdi Cayenne, Valaire and Cy. All free of charge.

Yoga on Toronto Island (July 17)
This activity is already super relaxing and can free not only your wallet, but your mind. Now imagine all those benefits, but doing it on the Island! Taking place during the Festival of India, this festival features outdoor yoga classes, mantra meditation sessions, yoga-inspired performances, a free vegetarian feast, arts and cultural shows.
