Leafs fans get the parody treatment on YouTube
Although it's a little hard to believe, the video embedded below, titled "Love to Hear the Boos," has already chalked up over 150,000 views in the last three days. That's pretty good for a clip about a Canadian hockey rivalry, I would think. Riffing on Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie," it tells the story of a closeted Leaf fan who gets in trouble with his Canadiens-loving girlfriend, who ends up brown-paper-bagging him for his misguided allegiances.
Along with the views, the video has also accrued almost a thousand comments, many of which involve some form of sparing between Habs and Leafs fans. What's strange about all of this to me is 1.) the video isn't really pro Leafs or Canadiens and 2.) it's not really all that funny. Don't get me wrong, I admire the guts of those who are willing to put themselves out there on YouTube like this, but the popularity of this particular effort is a bit mystifying.
