Popular brand of mitts and gloves recalled across Canada due to 'visible mould'
Mountain Equipment Company (MEC) and Health Canada have announced a recall of certain gloves and mitts after "visible mould growth" was found in some.
The recall, issued on Tuesday, affects certain mitts for children and youths, and gloves for adults.
"Mould may pose a health risk to individuals with compromised immune systems, damaged lungs or an allergy to mould," warned Health Canada.
You can check if your pair was impacted by looking at the white tag inside the right-hand mitt or glove. It's located just behind the size tag and contains the style number and purchase order (PO).
The recalled wearables were sold between September and November.
With winter here, you should check your glove drawer for the following models:
Style #6018024: (PO 666917) in Black, Salmonberry and Wildberry.
Style #6018272: (PO 668052) in Black.
Style #6018278: (PO 668056) in Black and Sulphur.
"The company reported that 123 units of the MEC Essential Mitts, 661 units of the MEC T1 Warm Waterproof Vario Gloves, and 645 units of the MEC T2 Warmer Wind Block Gloves were sold in Canada," stated Health Canada.
If you bought some of the potentially mouldy gloves and mitts listed above, you could get a full refund upon returning them to MEC.
The manufacturer posted on its website, "If the PO number printed there is one of the three listed below, your mitts are potentially affected and can be returned to MEC for a refund."
You can contact the brand by telephone toll-free at 1-888-847-0770, by email at info@mec.ca, or visit its website. Never try to sell, redistribute, or give away recalled products — the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act prohibits those actions.
Other recently recalled items for which you could get a refund include certain space heaters and liquid soaps sold at Winners, Marshalls, and HomeSense.
