Wooffles & Cream
Wooffles & Cream is a food stall located in a predominately Chinese mall at Kennedy Rd and Highway 7 in Markham. The concept here is unique, serving up a selection of sweet and savory Hong Kong style egg waffles with a small selection of soft serve ice cream, Italian sodas and parfaits.
The concept is the brain child of co-owners Mabel Yeung and Ka Yan Woo who wanted to bring their favourite Hong Kong dessert to Canada.
I start with the highly recommended Lap Cheung waffle ($4.50) which is a dim sum inspired waffle containing Chinese sausage and seaweed. The waffle is fluffy with crisp edges. The salty sausage and seaweed give it a great taste that makes for a unique salty treat.
I am told the Lap Cheung waffle pairs well with ice cream for a sweet and savoury treat but on this day I was not feeling quite that adventurous.
As an encore, I opt for a plain waffle with a matcha and vanilla soft serve swirl. While the waffle was good, the matcha soft serve really stole the show. The matcha flavour was strong and mixed well with the vanilla without being overly sweet. The freshly made waffle is the perfect compliment to the creamy soft serve.
The menu here is compact with a few interesting waffle selections that range from the savoury salt and pepper to the more mundane cookies and cream. All waffles are made fresh to order so a bit of a wait should be expected since the line-up can build quickly.
Plenty of seating is available as this stall is located in the food court of a strip plaza. Be forewarned that parking here can be a bit of a nightmare but the waffles are definitely worth it.
If you're a fan of Chinese inspired dessert or waffles in general, this place is a must try.
