The Dirty Bird Annex

The Dirty Bird has opened a second location in The Annex and it's sharing a space with the Yogurty's next to Lee's Palace . Commendably, this new joint will be open until last call on weekends to satisfy your drunk cravings for fried chicken and waffles.

Signature menu items, such as the two-piece combos ($7), ODB ($15) and Dirty Club ($15) are all here, but the digital menu boards show some of the off-menu specials that have become fixtures since the Kensington Market original first launched.

Fried wings sold by the pound for $14 are available in dry, dirty, buffalo, maple garlic or BBQ jerk. I get the BBQ jerk and it's nothing like I imagined. The plump, crispy wings are almost too saucy. They'd be good plain and don't need to be masked; a thin glaze would do just fine.

Dirty Poutine ($12), on the other hand, is exactly what I want it to be; a pile of fries topped with Quebec curds, smothered in saucy pulled chicken and sprinkled with chives.

Competing With the fro-yo offerings are a line-up of ice cream sandwiches. The Sweet Nuttin' ($6) is especially good. It features a scoop of sweet potato ice cream between two mini waffles finished with candied pecans and a whipped cream.

It might be fried chicken in the front, fro-yo in the back, but operations are entirely separate. While a cross pollination of menu items is technically possible, it's unlikely you'll find chicken skin crackling at Yogurty's DIY toppings bar any time soon.
