Silo13
Silo13 is where to go to fulfill your wildest little kid cereal dreams. Just the charms? You got it. Toppings like mini oreos and mini white chocolate peanut butter cups? No problem.
There are also options like overnight chia parfaits, but let’s not get too adult about this. I love their cute name, alluding to the origins of cereal while also somehow managing to sound like a suburban MC who raps about dark chocolate almond milk.
The space in the Emerald Park building just a stone’s throw from Sheppard and Yonge (which also contains the second Allwyn’s location) is long, narrow, and has exposed brick spattered with colourful graffiti by a local artist.
There over a hundred cereals in stock and counting, including imports. Owners David Cai and Ariel Kabir are always looking for new cereals to add, and nothing is purely display: just ask and they’ll pour it for you.
Already overwhelmed by that level of choice? Pre-packed bowls ($6) that aren’t too crazy on the combinations are available for quick grab-and-go right at the front counter, where coffee is also available, easing workers into the concept.
Infused coconut water ($6.50) is also available here in flavours like orange and blueberry. This is also a great option for a quick and really light something to keep you going.
All cereal bowls are $10, but if you’re not sure where to start there are featured bowls that combine prescribed ingredients.
“Berry Me in Sugar” is a ten-year-old’s dream brunch: Cap’n Crunch Oops! All Berries, Froot Loops, Fruit Pebbles, Mini Wheats Strawberry and Trix.
It's all topped with assorted berries, whipped cream, and strawberry and chocolate sauces (which of course you can choose from for any bowl).
Just to prove you can, we grab this concoction with plain soy milk. I’m not sure how I’d feel if I ate this whole bowl, but the berry flavour is dynamite.
Our gracious hosts combine two features to tailor a second bowl for us that’s a sort of combination and twist on the “Bran New Day” and “Nutty Brit,” featuring less sugary cereals like Crunchy Nut Clusters and All Bran, topped with juicy mandarin segments.
It’s most recommended that you “freestyle” your bowl.
I have to go totally nuts, opting for blueberry pancake Cap’n Crunch, Chips Ahoy cereal, Apple Jacks and more.
Then I have to top it with mini oreos and Lucky Charms, finishing it off with dark chocolate almond milk.
Seating is mainly located towards the back here which doesn’t offer much natural light, but there’s plenty of room to play with in this high-ceilinged space. That is, if they don’t completely fill it to the rafters with even more cereal.
