Two new area codes have been approved for Toronto. As of March 25th, 2013, the city's third area code (after 416 and 647) will be 437, which, you know, ain't that bad sounding. Also approved was 387, which has been reserved for future use as demand for new phone numbers soars.

There's no ranking system when it comes to the selection of these numbers. The CRTC simply looks for a combination that works with existing phone numbers so as to avoid confusion with triple digit repeats (i.e. 647-647-000). All the same, the newest area code is always deemed the least cool. One wonders, however, if this will be case this time around. 437, after all, is closer to 416.

One thing's for sure, whenever 387 rolls out, it'll make 647 sound cool.
