Love & Greed
Love & Greed, although tucked inside the ground level of a condo building, is a high-end menswear boutique you can't miss walking through the ever-growing streets of Parkdale . Marked with floor-to-ceiling windows and a neon sign reading "The best is yet to come," the store sticks out like a sore thumb in a neighbourhood best known for vintage wares and roti.
Upon entrance, owner Sunny Singh greeted me into the space. Despite its modest size, the space has no shortage of character with its high ceilings, (very trendy) exposed concrete walls, and antique furnishings sourced by Smash Salvage . A carefully curated roster of Italian, American, and Japanese brands fills the room, completing the preppy vibe.
The left side of the room is dedicated to hard-to-find office wear, highlighting Alexander Nash suits and tuxedos with a New York City edge. Sharp outerwear can also be found in this section, counting a grey Fortela coat made from army blankets ($1250) and a Norwegian Rain winter coat that gives a down jacket a run for its money ($1495).
The other half of the room houses everything else: weekend wear and offbeat accessories.
Right away, a watercolour-dyed Satya Twena hat ($450) and rose gold Edwin watch ($235) caught my eye.
Textile geeks will lose their minds over the selection of La Paz sweaters and Japan Blue jeans.
Aside from stocking Love & Greed with unique gear, Sunny also designs house-branded leatherwork made in Parkdale including key chains ($25) and cardholders ($100). Soon, he'll create high-end leather sneakers among other exciting pieces.
Thinking my visit was over, I inched toward the door only to be invited to the whiskey bar downstairs. Sponsored by Auchentoshan , the cozy space is meant to host private events including a monthly "Whiskey Wednesdays" where 10 dudes can get together and talk about stuff (Scotch in hand, of course).
Eventually, the bar will be open to the public every evening -- so you can get a whiskey fix between antiquing and roti-eating.
