THIS WEEK

  • The fifth annual Smoke's Poutinerie World Poutine Eating Championship takes place this Saturday, October 4 at Yonge Dundas Square. On from 10am to 5pm, go for free poutine, a beer garden and live '80s glam-rock. Amateur eaters face off at 2pm and Major a League Eaters chow down on 3pm.
  • Now in its second year, the Homegrown Park Crawl hosted by the David Suzuki Foundation, is set to take place on Sunday, October 5 from 10am to 5pm. Over a dozen Toronto chefs and restaurants, including the likes of Pizzeria Libretto, Carmen, Marben, Ursa and The County General are taking part offering tasty treats as participants make their way from park to park. Expect to find food and drink vendors plus adventurous local musical acts, live entertainment and eco-activities at four parks -- Christie Pits, Bickford Park, Fred Hamilton Park and Trinity Bellwoods. Early bird food tickets will be available online. Bring your own plates and mugs.
  • 86'd Monday at The Drake Hotel (1150 Queen St. West) will feature a pate battle on October 6 from 8pm. Be a guest judge at this free competitive cook-off where reigning champ RenĂŠe Bellefeuille (AGO) will defend her title against Le Select, Ruby Watchco, Canoe and Biff's Bistro.
  • Love Food Give Food In support of Action Against Hunger will see Toronto chefs compete for top honour by reimagining nostalgic kid food. The signature event of this charitable campaign takes place Tuesday, October 7 from 6pm to 9:30pm at Artscape Wychwood Barns (601 Christie St.). Tickets are $125 and includes unlimited sampling from over 20 chefs plus 20 boutique wine, beer and food vendors.

UPCOMING

  • David Ort, author of The Canadian Craft Beer Cookbook presents an evening of Cooking with Craft Beer complete with food stations and craft beer pairings. The historic Enoch Turner Schoolhouse Foundation (106 Trinity St.) hosts on October 15 from 6:30 pm to 9:30pm. Tickets are $40 and include all beer and food samples.
  • Bier Markt Esplanade (58 The Esplanade) hosts New Holland Brewery on October 15th for the Mad Hatter's Tea Party, a 5-course dinner ($70) with beer pairings prepared by Executive Chef Michael Cipollo. Seats are limited and reservations a must.
