Dim Sum Anyone?

The Harbourfront Centre is hosting DIM SUM: A Sampling of Contemporary Chinese Culture from now till the end of the weekend. Activities include a wide range of everything Chinese including musical performances both traditional (today) and contemporary (tomorrow). I guess for our demographic purposes I'll let you know what you may be interested in checking out.

Performances lined up for tomorrow include Toronto based M1 Academy featuring Masia One followed by Jin Tha MC from the States. Also, for those interested, there will be a traditional Chinese Opera performance both Saturday and Sunday. The last Chinese Opera I saw was when I was 14 and I couldn't take my eyes off the stage, it was so fascinating. Didn't understand a word, but I was still completely engaged.

Also there will be numerous readings and workshops hosted by the good folks at fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company. On Saturday you can sharpen your comedic improv skills with Jane Luk (Train 48) and on Sunday you can take the Stage Combat Workshop with Richard Lee (Little Dragon, Theatre Passe Muraille). Or you can listen to new works by Chinese-Canadian playwrights hosted by Marjorie Chan (China Doll)

More to the schedule, there are, of course, cooking demos of Chinese 'fusion' dishes. I'm sure they'll be samples after the demo.

For the Film Buff in you, there will be screening of Johnnie To's Throwdown, Beijing Bicycle, The Magical Life of Long Tak Sam and Ang Lee's classic film Eat Drink, Man Woman.

For more scheduling info check the Harbourfront Centre website. Go out an have some DIM SUM!
