Haven Brews
Haven Brews has become a lively hub in Toronto that unites coffee, art, music and workshops. Offering distinctive experiences, the place goes beyond a destination for coffee enthusiasts.
Founded by recent immigrants from Hong Kong, co-owners Andrew Choi and Chris Fung are integrating various elements under one roof, from candle making to latte art lessons, and seasonal markets to show their support for local businesses near Finch and Bathurst.
And most importantly, in line with their brand name, they aim to create a place of safety within the community.
Inside, you can find a roomy coffee shop setting embellished in sleek black and wood accents, all brightened up with natural sunlight through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The captivating record player near the entrance, along with a shelf showcasing vinyl records from across the world, exude a nostalgic and artistic touch to the overall ambience that instantly whisks you away to the 1980s.
What truly draws my attention is a pillar housing chocolate for sale that also displays painted quotes, thoughtfully chosen and designed by Haven Brews' team thanks to their previous experience in social service and art therapy.
Choose a quote that aligns with your current mood, and indulge in a piece of chocolate to add sweetness to your day.

With coffee as the core of Haven Brews, their menu features a variety of caffeinated beverages using beans sourced from Brazil and Ethiopia.
There's also a variety of lunch and snack options and fresh pastries.
For newcomers to the process of a hand-drip coffee, I'd suggest trying the Colombia Granja Paraiso 92 ($6.50).
Presented in a traditional Japanese Sake set to maintain its optimal temperature, this cup is an easy sip with notes of lychee, passion fruit, apricot and green tea, thanks to its 40-hours anaerobic fermentation process.
Pair the crunchy and subtly sweet oatmeal cookies ($5 for two) with their hand-drip coffees as a delightful combo, available in flavours like raspberry almond and chocolate.
Among their beverage selection, my personal favourite goes to the Espresso Apple Tonic ($7). Layered with sweet apple juice, it's topped with bubbly tonic water and a finishing shot of espresso.
Remember to give it a gentle stir before savouring this light and refreshing blend.
The "Dirty" beverage ($5.50), which comes in one serving size, is made by delicately pouring hot espresso over cold milk, and ends up having quite the trendy look to it.
The drink begins with a bold and nutty coffee essence, followed by the velvety chilled milk that gives it a contrast of warmth and coolness in the end.
Don't pass up the opportunity to experience their rich and smooth hot Matcha Latte ($7.25), showcasing exquisite latte art expertly crafted by their talented baristas.
Beyond pastries, Haven Brews also offers a handful of lunch items to curb your appetite and keep you captivated in the space even longer.
Toast is loaded with smoked salmon and cream cheese ($12.99), bringing together a straightforward delight, accompanied by a side of arugula and cherry tomato salad.
Another open-faced sandwich I tried was the Prosciutto Sous Vide Egg Avocado Toast ($17.99) which introduces an Asian-twist on the classic dish.
Smashed avocado on sourdough bread is topped with slices of cured ham, and drizzles of balsamic. The inclusion of a perfectly cooked onsen egg takes this to another level.
Even if you're just strolling by for a standard latte ($5.25), Haven Brews is a welcoming cafe that offers many pleasant surprises.
From their innovative concepts to menu offerings, there's likely something new to be explored with each visit.
Haven Brews is located at 222 Finch Ave W, Unit 101.
