Bayleys Brew Bar
Bayleys Brew Bar is a smoothie bar and cafe with an emphasis on superfoods and fresh, real ingredients.
The space used to be the reception for Chill Ice House, which is currently still run by Bayleys owner Meredith Bayley and her husband Gresham. Before that, the spot previously housed a Drake General Store.
It’s everything Meredith wants in a cafe where she herself would like to work: relaxing but upbeat music, little plants festooning each table, WiFi password proudly displayed on the wall.
A beetroot superfood “latte” ($5.50) doesn’t actually contain any coffee or, in fact, caffeine of any sort. You can opt to add an espresso shot for $1.25, though it will dull the vibrancy of these bright beverages.
What makes these lattes is that they’re all steamed with almond milk, this one incorporating real beets blended down with ginger and sieved for a creamy but sweet and spicy warm drink.
There’s also an activated charcoal version ($5). For this one there’s a tiny bit of a vanilla and agave with the almond milk so it has a little extra sweetness to it.
All smoothies are $9, with the option to choose a custom combination or make your own with two fruits and veggies, plus your choice of liquid and two add-ons.
Turmeric Immunity is made with carrots, coconut water, pineapple, ginger, ground turmeric, lemon and cayenne for a sweet, spicy and super healthy-feeling power-up. It’s meant to be anti-inflammatory and immunity-boosting.
Power Greens is a grassy mix of spinach, avocado, green apple, cucumber, hemp hearts, coconut water, ginger, spirulina and agave. All these ingredients are packed with antioxidants, healthy fats and nutrients.
Of course, real, regular coffee made with Reunion Island’s Bullet Espresso is available, even including butter coffee ($5). On the more indulgent end of the menu’s spectrum, if you’ve never had fatty, rich butter coffee before, don’t take my word for it: order one for yourself.
There are also outside-sourced juices and drinks from companies like Well, and Moore kombucha ($5) and Pilot nitro-infused cold brew ($4.50) are both on tap.
Treats are sourced from local, health-oriented company Sweets from the Earth, including a dense chocolate chip banana bread and a lemon cranberry loaf (both $2).
Pickup is available through Ritual, and entry to Chill Ice House is still accessible through gigant walk-in freezer doors in the corner of the Bayleys Brew Bar space.
