The Cupcakery

My days of messing around with Betty Crocker mixes are through! Wandering down St. Clair Avenue W. one day, I happened upon The Cupcakery, which first opened its doors in March of 2008. As soon as I entered the shop, I was greeted by a tiered cupcake tower which stood out against the simple but elegant decor and let me know that I'd come to the right place to satisfy my craving for a creamy caked confectionery creation.

I was delighted to find that The Cupcakery offers about thirty different homemade selections that encompass the more traditional fare ("La Dolce Vita" - a chocolate cake topped with chocolate buttercream icing) to some less conventional flavours, such as "Peanut Butter & Jam" and "Sweet & Sour" (a strawberry cake with the choice of either lemon-lime or blue raspberry buttercream icing).

"The OC" is the aptly-named favourite for customers from a neighbouring high school, and the "Principessa", with its pink vanilla icing, has become a popular choice among young girls looking for something as pleasing to the eye as it is to the taste buds.

The Cupcakery specializes in customized cupcakes that are ideal for weddings, bar mitzvahs and birthdays. The shop's wizards can even colour-match for any occasion. They even have a "Cupcake Girl" to book for catering corporate events!

There are also a variety of sizes to choose from; bite-sized, regular, the "Cupcake for 2" (take note for Valentine's Day, you sweet-toothed lovebirds, you) and the large cake. The standard-size cupcakes cost $2.50 each, and can be purchased by the half-dozen or dozen for $13.00 or $25.00 respectively, and are indeed worth the price. The cakes are moist, the buttercream icings are rich, and the decorations are creative.
